Born in Figueras (Spain) in 1962, Cristina Nuñez is a portraitist with a passion for bringing out the best qualities and strengths of her sitters. Her “charismatic” portraits have appeared in prestigious magazines around the world and a series of photography books.
She has realised numerous projects which have been published and exhibited in Italy and abroad: BODY AND SOUL, a book of portraits and nudes (Marangoni Award 1994, Florence); TO HELL AND BACK, on survivors from the Holocaust HEAVEN ON EARTH, a voyage through European spirituality (Mosaique Award 1996, Luxembourg Ministry of Culture), IO SONO, about liberation from drugs (2000) and YOUNG ITALIAN GENTLE MEN, on the next generation of Italian gentlemen (Valentina Edizioni, Nov. 2006).
From 2002 to 2005 she founded and ran the SOMOS photo agency to promote the work of young photographers and CHARISMANAGEMENT, a project for the affirmation of corporate identity through photography. During this period she also worked on group projects such as TALES FROM A GLOBALIZING WORLD (Thames & Hudson 2004) and QUOTIDIANO AL FEMMINILE, Peliti Associati, 2003.
Cristina Nuñez takes self-portraits since 1988 as a sort of self-therapy. In 2005 she started to hold self-portrait workshops to improve creativity and self-knowledge at Domus Academy Milan, FORMA International Centre of Photography of Milan, The University of Bologna , the Rudolf Steiner School in Milan for teenagers and shortly at The University of Turku (Finland), Turku Academy of Arts and The Finnish Phototherapy Association.
In 2006 Nuñez creates THE SELF-PORTRAIT PERFORMANCE, a corporate training project with the use of the photo self-portrait.
Coming soon: her book THE SELF-PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE illustrates her self-portrait method and philosophy, with numerous testimonials by her teenage and adult students.
